SARS staggers 2024 Filing Season, urging taxpayers to submit only in their assigned windows

SARS announces a phased Filing Season rollout to manage tax return submissions, urging taxpayers to wait for their designated filing windows and follow guidance to avoid system congestion and errors.

The South African Revenue Service will phase this year’s Filing Season, asking taxpayers to submit returns only during their allocated windows. The approach is meant to smooth traffic on eFiling and the MobiApp, reduce processing errors and speed up assessments.

For investors with multiple income streams—such as dividends, interest or rental income—the timing matters for cash‑flow planning and avoiding administrative penalties. Checking your filing window before submitting could also help ensure that third‑party data is fully loaded, improving the odds of a clean assessment and faster refund.

SARS says it will provide guidance to each taxpayer on when and how to file, and it encourages patience to keep systems stable during peak periods. Read the full announcement.
