Johannesburg — State-owned power utility Eskom said on 26 June 2026 it has sustained strong power system performance as winter demand rises, supported by improved energy availability from its generation fleet.
The company said higher availability of generation units has helped meet evening peak demand and maintain supply stability during colder conditions. Eskom added that it remains focused on operational execution to keep more capacity online and to reduce the risk of short-notice supply gaps.
According to the utility, winter operations include balancing planned maintenance with real-time system needs and using demand management measures during peak hours. Eskom said it will continue monitoring plant performance and electricity consumption trends to guide dispatch decisions through the winter period.
The utility noted that its immediate priority is maintaining adequate generation and reserve margins while managing any unplanned breakdowns. It said updates on system conditions will be provided as demand and plant availability shift through the season.
